Morpheus Software is a leading publisher of digital photo animation software for consumers. The company's software titles include the popular Morpheus Photo Morpher, which has been downloaded over 6 million times, Morpheus Photo Warper, Morpheus Photo Mixer and Morpheus Photo Animation Suite.
In 1999, Ryan Rubley created the first, basic version of Morpheus Photo Morpher while studying computer science at Grand Valley State University in Michigan. Ryan wanted to create image morphing software superior to the morphing programs available at that time and typically used only by professional animators.
With everyday PC users beginning to buy digital cameras, Ryan decided to invent an easy-to-use desktop software that would place professional-level digital photo animation capabilities into the hands of the average computer user.
The original version of Morpheus Software's Photo Morpher was available to users of CNET's Download.com for free and became an instant success – one of the most popular image editing software titles to be featured on CNET.
In 2001, Dan Engel, then VP of Business Development at Sanity Software, a digital photo consumer software company, came across Ryan's software online. Instantly recognizing its business potential, he sent Ryan an email asking if he'd be interested in partnering to turn his hobby into a real business. Ryan responded that he would.
In 2002, Ryan and Dan co-founded Morpheus Software (www.animatephotos.com) and started offering Morpheus Photo Morpher as commercial shareware instead of as a free download.
Dan continued to work at Sanity Software, then held various sales, marketing and business development positions at Expertcity/GoToMyPC, Picasa and Google, before starting work full-time at Morpheus Software in October 2004.
Morpheus Software Today
The company has completely redesigned its morphing product, Morpheus Photo Morpher, and is launching two new animation titles, Morpheus Photo Warper and Morpheus Photo Mixer. Morpheus Photo Warper lets digital photography enthusiasts warp, distort, and exaggerate portions of photos, while Morpheus Photo Mixer lets them blend and mix up faces and body parts between two pictures.
Additionally, Morpheus Software is releasing Morpheus Photo Animation Suite, which contains all three products for morphing, warping and mixing in a single animation software package.
As co-founder and CEO of Morpheus, Dan drives the company's strategic direction and leads the sales and business development efforts. Co-founder Ryan is VP of software development, responsible for product maintenance and innovation.
Headquartered in Carmel, Indiana, Morpheus Software has a team of 10 people involved in the privately-held start-up. The company has strategic partnerships with Broderbund Software, Nova Development, ACD Systems and other leading software and imaging companies, which help bring the Morpheus Software animation products to millions of people around the world.
